Affidavit by Lorraine Day, M.D.

To Whom it May Concern:

1. On January 9, 2009, Danny Shelton, in an e-mail to me, accused Linda of committing adultery during their marriage.  His words were “. . . it was Linda’s choice to commit adultery”, an accusation that Linda Shelton has always denied.

2. In the same e-mail Danny Shelton stated that their marriage counselors told Linda “that while they weren’t accusing her of physical adultery it would end up there if she didn’t drop her relationship with this man” and that the counselors referred to Dr. Arild Abrahamsen, the physician also accused, as being a “snake in the grass.”

Linda Shelton denies that the marriage counselors said either of these things, or anything similar.

3. In an e-mail dated January 8, 2009, Danny Shelton claimed that he only kept one saddle in the house.  Linda Shelton states that there was a minimum of five saddles in the house, which started “disappearing” one by one, beginning in the year 2000.  Since Danny was not alarmed by their disappearance, Linda has assumed in retrospect that the saddles were probably being sold by Danny without her knowledge, possibly to obtain hidden income – income hidden even from Linda.

4. In the same e-mail dated January 8, 2009, Danny Shelton accused Linda Shelton of having a phone conversation during which she “invited Arild Abrahamsen to meet her in New York” – an accusation that Linda Shelton vehemently denies.  Danny Shelton previously made the same accusation in an e-mail to me dated January 3, 2009.  Danny says he has a tape recording of her conversation, but he never is willing to let me – or apparently anyone else – listen to the recording.

5.In an e-mail to me on January 4, 2009, Danny Shelton stated that Linda Shelton claimed (to several people) she was locked in the basement of their house during the campmeeting the end of May and first of June of 2004 and that is why she could not attend.  Linda denies this as an outright lie by Danny Shelton.

6.In the same e-mail of January 4, 2009, Danny Shelton states that Arild Abrahamsen “admitted to Pastor John (Lomacang? Or Stanton?) and to Brenda (Walsh) that “Linda was in love with him”, an accusation that Linda Shelton brands as a complete lie

7.In an e-mail of January 3, 2009, Danny Shelton repeated to me an accusation that he has told me several times previously on the phone, that Linda Shelton was “holding hands with Arild Abrahamsen” when Arild accompanied Linda while she walked her dog one night, during the time Danny and Linda were married.  Linda Shelton denies this accusation completely.

First Danny Shelton claimed to me that he had pictures of Linda and Airld holding hands.  Then he changed his story and said he didn’t have pictures but he had an affidavit from the three Private Investigators who supposedly witnessed this.  Later Danny said the affidavit was signed by only ONE Private Investigator.  Then he said he “might” send me a copy of the signed affidavit, but only one page at a time, and the page he sent might not be the first page of the affidavit.  Yet, Danny Shelton has never sent any page of any affidavit to me as “proof” of this accusation.

8.In an e-mail of December 21, 2008, Danny Shelton accused Linda of being in her daughter’s apartment alone with Dr. Arild Abrahamsen until 3:00 A.M. in April or May of 2004, when Linda was married to Danny.  Linda denies this accusation completely and states that Pastor Johann was there the whole time.  The three of them were working on responses to be read to the Board of 3 ABN, particularly since both Pastor Johann and Dr. Abrahamsen who had flown from Norway specifically to address the board so Abrahamsen could clear his name as well as Linda’s of these false accusations, were thrown off the property of 3ABN by Danny Shelton who threatened to have them arrested if they did not leave.

9.In the same e-mail of December 21, 2008, Danny Shelton denies that he has “any off shore accounts or an account in Michigan” the truth of which can only be determined by the discovery process Danny Shelton is resisting and trying to have buried from public view.

10.In an e-mail of January 2, 2009, Danny Shelton claims that no one got fired from 3ABN for supporting Linda Shelton.  But Linda claims that Pastor Johann did get fired because he refused to lie about the circumstances, and that Darrell Mundall, Danny’s ex son-in-law who was openly supportive of Linda Shelton, was told by Danny Shelton that if he did not resign, he would be fired.  Mundall resigned.

11.In an e-mail of January 11, 2009, Danny Shelton claimed that “Linda is the only one to have made any personal money from the recording studio owned by 3ABN.”  Linda Shelton claims that is a false statement by Danny.  Both Melody, Danny’s daughter, and Danny himself have profited personally from the recording studio.

12.Danny claims, in the same e-mail of January 11, 2009, that Linda told Danny that Arild Abrahamsen said that “if he had a wife as talented as her (Linda) that he would gladly spend the money to make the videos for her.”  Linda denies that she ever told that to Danny.  She also denies that Abrahamsen ever said that to her.

13. In an e-mail of August 24, 2008, Danny Shelton refers to “Melody’s ex” (her ex-husband Darrell Mundall) as “the child porn guy”, a charge that may well be libelous.

14.In numerous e-mails and phone conversations with me, Danny Shelton has accused Linda of being a liar and of having been “caught” in many lies by many people, including employees at 3 ABN.  Again, no documentation to support this accusation has ever been presented.

These numerous accusations by Danny Shelton, of Linda’s alleged immoral behavior and of his own lack of financial resources were repeated to me many times both by e-mails and by phone conversations during the period of approximately June, 2008 up to and including the present time.  Yet at no time did Danny Shelton ever produce any of the so-called “proof” that he claims to have and that he promised to send me. 

I am a physician, an orthopedic trauma surgeon, who was raised a Seventh-day Adventist.  I went to a Seventh-day Adventist grade school, high school (Auburn Adventist Academy) and college (La Sierra College – now - University).  My father was a well known Seventh-day Adventist Pastor, Conference President, and subsequently Ministerial Director of the Pacific Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

I know the Seventh-day Adventist community very well because I was raised in it, and I know the totally devastating effects that accusations of immoral behavior have on the person who is accused.  The victim of the accusations almost always loses his or her job if employed in a Seventh-day Adventist institution or organization, is shunned by the community of Seventh-day Adventists, and shame and humiliation are heaped on his or her head.

Seventh-day Adventist Churches and other Seventh-day Adventist organizations will not invite them to speak or sing, a major potential source of income for Linda Shelton, that has been totally destroyed by these accusations by Danny Shelton, Brenda Walsh (Linda Shelton’s former “best” friend), Dr. Walter Thompson, Chairman of the Board of 3ABN, and by other 3ABN Board members.

In addition, the doctrines of the Seventh-day Adventist church state that the only grounds for re-marriage after a divorce is evidence of “adultery by one’s spouse.” If Danny Shelton’s real reason for divorcing Linda Shelton so precipitously and viciously (four months from the first accusation until the final “Quickie” divorce decree) was to marry another woman – who could well have been waiting in the wings - he would have to accuse Linda Shelton of adultery and he would have to make the “accusation” of adultery “stick” – no matter how false the accusation was. 

Is it possible that when the truth is revealed, that Danny Shelton was the one guilty of adultery – NOT Linda - as Danny’s car was seen in front of the apartments of several different women, and Danny spent extensive time on the phone with several different women many different times, during his marriage to Linda Shelton.

There is a well-known phenomenon In Psychiatry.  When one person accuses another person of his OWN behavior, that is called “Projection.”

In that situation, if Danny had not made these false accusations of adultery forcefully, and broadcast them world-wide to “convince” the viewers and Seventh-day Adventist donor base of 3ABN of Linda’s guilt - without any evidence - Danny Shelton would have been fired from his job at 3ABN and would lose not only his salary but all his perks, including access to a private jet airplane, access to a million dollar recording studio, $15,000.00 minimum per month in donations to his legal defense, the ability to have six lawyers in four states, and the prestige and “celebrity” of being the President of a world-wide religious television network with a huge income from donations that was available to him to use almost as he pleased, with very little oversight by the 3ABN Board.

What a motive!

He could also plan to 1) force on Linda a unilateral “Silence agreement” euphemistically called a “Protective Order” (which he did) so she would not be allowed to tell her side of the story to anyone, 2) to hide their marital assets (which he controlled while they were married) so Linda would not get her fair share that would allow her to have the means to legally fight her wrongful termination and the massive libel and slander directed against her by Danny and the 3ABN Chairman and Board members, as well as, 3) to arrange for the Board Chairmen and others at 3ABN to obstruct Linda’s invitations to churches and other organizations to eliminate her ability to support herself and re-gain her (falsely) destroyed reputation.

If Danny Shelton did not forcefully and repeatedly (falsely) assert Linda’s alleged adultery even without any evidence whatsoever, he would have had no grounds for re-marriage.  He would not have been able to marry his present wife, who is about half his age.  And Linda would have the resources and opportunity to prove her innocence and expose Danny’s egregious lies about her. 

Then it would be Danny who would be humiliated world-wide, he would be fired from his job, and would have no choice but to return to his former occupation as an unknown construction worker in Thompsonville, Illinois, a town with a population of 571 (according to the 2000 US census).  Danny Shelton would end up as a shamed and humiliated “Nobody”!

Again, what a motive!

How much “better” for Danny Shelton and his future, 1) to make these heinous false accusations of adultery against his wife, Linda Shelton, 2) to keep far more than his share of the marital assets by hiding them, and 3) to bring the shame and humiliation down – not on himself - but on Linda, and (wrongfully) terminate her from her job at 3ABN and throw her out of their home and their marriage, rather than suffer the consequences of his own actions.

It is no wonder that Danny Shelton wants a Protective Order in these proceedings. It is no wonder Danny Shelton wants a “Secret Trial.”  Danny Shelton has a lot to hide – and a lot to lose!
