Why Does Everybody Smell So Bad? 

And what does that have to do with God’s Word?

Underarm deodorants, mouthwashes, and products for foot odor have been around for many decades.  But in the last ten years there has been an explosion of other products to counteract  human odors: anti-odor products for the bad smells in your home, the bad smells in your car, anti-odor trash bags, anti-odor products for your dishwasher and for your washing machine, disinfectants to kill germs on your kitchen counter, on your telephone, on your children’s toys, anti-odor yarn to make socks, and now there is anti-odor underwear (called “Under-Ease” – just in case you don’t believe me) for people with excessive flatulence.  

What in the world is going on?  Why do people smell so bad?  Why does their breath, perspiration, and every other discharge from their body smell so foul that this situation has spawned a whole new multi-billion industry? 

Why is smelling BAD - so GOOD for the economy?

Air fresheners and anti-odor products have become a huge business.  The air freshener industry brings in $10 billion annually worldwide, but is even superceded by the deodorant business worth $20 billion. 

“Watch enough TV commercials, and you get the sense that Americans are obsessed with air freshener, according to journalist Coco Masters, in a Time magazine article, How “Fresh” is Air Freshener?  “Trigger-happy women routinely rush around the house armed with cans of the stuff, gleefully spraying running shoes, embarrassed dogs and cigar-smoke-laden furniture; whole families, it seems, are intoxicated by the fresh scent of Summer Breeze or Berry Burst.

But just how "fresh" – or how harmful – is air freshener?

A study released by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) evaluated 14 air fresheners off the shelf of a local Walgreens and found that 12 contained variable amounts of substances called phthalates (pronounced THAL-ates), a group of chemicals that are used to dissolve and carry fragrances, soften plastics and also as sealants and adhesives. Phthalates are commonly found in a variety of products, including cosmetics, paints, nail polish and children's toys — and have long been at the center of a larger international controversy over their health effects.

Phthalates in air fresheners can cause cancer, developmental abnormalities and infertility

Studies involving rat and human subjects have suggested that high exposures to certain kinds of phthalates can cause cancer, developmental and sex-hormone abnormalities (including decreased testosterone and sperm levels and malformed sex organs) in infants, and can affect fertility.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has no regulations on the use of phthalates, does not require the labeling of phthalate content on products and does not consider the quantities to which people are exposed to be harmful. But other countries think otherwise. In 2004, the European Union banned two types of phthalates in cosmetics and also bans the chemical in children's toys, as do 14 other countries.

Plug-in, spray or stand-alone liquid and gel air fresheners are used in nearly 75% of U.S. households, and the market has doubled since 2003 to $1.72 billion in the U.S. The NRDC tested products, including those labeled "all-natural" or "unscented," and found a wide range of phthalate content, from zero parts per million (ppm) to 7,300 ppm. Many air fresheners contained a phthalate known as DEP and some also contained DBP, which are listed by the California EPA's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment as a developmental toxin and female and male reproductive toxin, respectively.

What is the cause of all these smelly people, and their smelly clothes, homes and cars?

The answer is  - - constipation!  Yes, constipation. 

When one is constipated, the waste products meant to be expelled from the body quite soon, instead accumulate in the intestine, and stay there for much longer than they are supposed to.  The person has a “slow transit time” meaning that the time it takes the food to go through the digestive tract is too long.  This waste material then putrefies and the products of putrefaction are reabsorbed by the blood in the blood vessels that course through the intestinal walls, and these toxins are then distributed to every cell in the body.

This causes ALL the body fluids to smell of putrefaction, including the breath – causing BAD breath, the perspiration - causing body odor, the urine, and the waste material itself, as well as the clothes the person wears, and the garbage produced in the kitchen.

Because of bad breath and bad body odor, you may lose some friends, but that’s not the worst news.  Constipation is one of the basic causes of all diseases, including cancer, because it poisons all of your cells.  So, losing your friends is one thing, but losing your life is a lot more serious.

The next question is: What causes constipation?

Constipation contributes not only to cancer but to every other disease as well.  People read in the bathroom because they’re constipated.  If your elimination processes are working properly, you won’t have time to read. 

The American Cancer Society says that a danger sign for cancer is any “change” in bowel habits.  This is very misleading.  Every mother knows that a young baby has a bowel movement after every meal.  This is the way it is meant to be.  We are born with a normal reflex, the gastro-colic reflex, that triggers the bowel to empty when the stomach is filled with food.  If you eat three meals a day, ideally you should have three bowel movements a day, one after each meal.  But certainly at least two per day.  The absolute minimum should be one bowel movement every day.  If a person is not having a bowel movement every day, he is constipated.  Or if a person is having a bowel movement every day but it is very dense or hard or sinks to the bottom of the toilet bowel (meaning it is too concentrated – not enough water and fiber) this is also designated as constipation. 

The number one over-the-counter selling drug in America is laxatives, because virtually all Americans are constipated.  Why?  Because of the following factors: 

Nutrition.  Everyone is eating flesh food at almost every meal.  Meat, fish and poultry contain no fiber.  They all are 40% fat, very high in protein and take approximately three days to travel through the intestine.  The meat, fish and poultry then putrefy in the intestine and the individual absorbs the toxins.  In addition, everyone is eating too much sugar, which slows down the digestive process and encourages the overgrowth of harmful bacteria and fungi, like candida, in the colon. 

The average American is eating huge amounts of processed food containing no fiber but lots of chemicals.  Many “foods” also contain refined flour products that form paste (flour and water) in the intestine.  These “foods” decrease the peristaltic action of the intestine, the action that moves the food through the digestive tract, cause constipation and lead to reabsorption of putrefying toxins.  The diet that will cure constipation is high in fiber from natural fruits, grains and vegetables, especially when eaten raw. 

Dehydration.  Everyone is drinking coffee and caffeinated soda, both of which contain caffeine, a dehydrating chemical that causes the loss of more water from the body than comes in with the drink.  Alcoholic drinks also cause dehydration inside the body, just as alcohol causes drying of the skin when it is rubbed on the hands. 

And few people are drinking water in any significant amount.  The body loses 10 glasses of water every day just by living, and it is imperative to drink at least 10 glasses of water or fresh home-made vegetable juices daily to replace these losses.  The more dehydrated a person is, the more constipated he or she will be. 

Water not only softens the waste material as it travels through the intestine, water acts directly on the bowel, like a hormone, increasing  peristaltic action that speeds up the intestinal “transit time.” 

Lack of Exercise.  Lack of exercise causes a sluggish colon and constipation.

Exercise, particularly in the sun and in fresh air, relaxes the body, decreases stress, and causes an increase in intestinal peristalsis, thus, decreasing the possibility of constipation. 

Drug medications.  The majority of drug medications, whether for high blood

pressure or any other disease or disorder, cause constipation.  Drug medications can eventually be eliminated in almost every case as the person rebuilds his or her immune system by following the steps in God’ natural plan as found on my DVD “You Can’t Improve On God.”  But do not stop medications abruptly.   Medications can be very slowly decreased once you are following ALL ten steps in the health plan and the symptoms for which you were taking the drug are no longer present. 

Watching television.  Television watching often results in the “couch potato” syndrome, including the induction of a hypnotic-like trance.  The inactivity and the eating of junk food snacks while watching television increases the problem of constipation, as well. 

Stress.  Stress causes dehydration, decreases intestinal peristalsis and can cause cramping, spasticity and irritable bowel syndrome.  One must learn to decrease stress by slowing down his pace of living, drinking more water, eliminating caffeine, sugar and other harmful substances and by spending time every morning with the Lord in Bible study and prayer.  Exercise, fresh air, sunlight and plenty of sleep with an early bedtime also decreases stress.  

Antibiotics.  Antibiotics destroy the “good bacteria” in the colon and encourage the overgrowth of the bad bacteria, as well as fungi, such as candida.  This causes gas, constipation and can encourage disease formation. 

Constipation allows the reabsorption of toxins back into the body instead of eliminating them rapidly from the body.  Suppose all garbage pickup in your neighborhood had been canceled and the garbage just kept piling up in your kitchen.  It wouldn’t take long before you would collect a huge pile of rotting garbage producing a terrible stench and attracting all sorts of insects and vermin.  This is exactly what happens in your body when you do not have regular daily normal bowel movements. 

It has often been said by natural health advocates that “Cancer begins in the colon,” because the toxins that are meant to be eliminated are instead reabsorbed, leading to disease and tumor formation anywhere in the body. 

Many elderly people smell like “death”

Before the introduction of the countless array of air fresheners, when one walked into a nursing home, it smelled like “death.”  And literally, it was “death.”  These elderly people had for years been eating a diet of flesh food, abstaining from drinking water, yet drinking coffee, caffeinated soda and alcohol causing increased dehydration, not exercising, and suffering years and years of constipation.  They were literally “stewing” in their own waste material.  And they smelled like it. 

Obviously, air fresheners didn’t cure the old person’s constipation, but they made the institution tolerable for visitors. 

The harmful effects of the Atkins’ diet 

It is not surprising that people who follow the Atkins’ diet, a diet of almost all flesh food with very small amounts of natural produce, smell the same way.  They, too, are suffering constipation and “stewing” in their own waste material.  Indeed, many of them lose weight, at least transiently, because they are making themselves sick with this high protein, flesh food diet.  They develop ketosis, a pathologic condition that occasionally occurs in a diabetic and is considered by doctors to be a medical emergency. 

That’s why following the Atkins’ diet is harmful to your health; it actually makes you sick! 

To enjoy optimum health, it is essential to have a properly functioning, healthy colon.  How is that obtained? 

The Ideal Diet - and the Ideal way to live 

God has given us the ideal diet: fruits, grains and vegetables in their natural form, whole foods, the way they grow in the garden – not processed foods that have been altered by “man.” 

What was God’s original diet for Adam and Eve as well as all the animals in the Garden of Eden?

Answer: a Vegan Vegetarian diet of fruit and grains.

In Genesis 1:29-30, God said:

“I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.

Vegetables Added After Sin

After Adam and Eve sinned and were banned from the Garden of Eden, what else did God allow them to eat?

In Genesis 3:6, we read that Adam and Eve sinned by eating of the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.  Up until that time, Adam didn’t have to spend any time tilling the soil for food because it grew beautifully by itself in the orchard on the tree, and the grain grew readily in the ground.

But after sin entered, God cursed the ground “for thy sake. . . thorns also and thistles shall it cause to bud and thou shalt eat the herb of the field (vegetables).  In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it were you taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.”  Genesis 3:17-19

Vegetables were added after sin.  God “cursed the ground” for Adam and Eve’s sake so they would have to learn how to work hard, tilling the ground for food.  It is through hard work that we build character by learning diligence, patience, and endurance.  It is through tilling the ground for food that we are constantly reminded that God is the One who provides for us.  Vegetables cannot grow without the sun and the rain, both of which God has created.

Flesh Food Allowed After the Flood

God allowed humanity to eat flesh food after the flood, but only “Clean” animals could be used for food.

In Genesis 9.1-5 we read:

Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. The fear and dread of you will fall upon all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon every creature that moves along the ground, and upon all the fish of the sea; they are given into your hands. Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything. “But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it. And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal.” (NIV)

Food Fed to Farm Animals

Are these ingredients legal? Unfortunately, yes. Nevertheless, some raise human health concerns. Others just indicate the low standards for animal feeds. But all are symptoms of a system that has lost sight of the appropriate way to raise animals for food.

Same Species Meat, Diseased Animals, and Feathers, Hair, Skin, and Blood

The advent of "mad cow" disease (also known as bovine spongiform encephalopathy or BSE) raised international concern about the safety of feeding rendered cattle to cattle.

According to Wikipedia, Rendering is a process that converts waste animal tissue into (disgusting) “food” for the animals you eat.  The majority of tissue processed comes from slaughterhouses, but also includes restaurant grease and butcher shop trimmings, expired meat from grocery stores, and the carcasses of euthanized and dead animals from animal shelters, zoos and veterinarians. This material can include the fatty tissue, bones, and offal (entrails – the bowels – and other internal organs of animals), as well as entire carcasses of animals condemned at slaughterhouses, and those that have died on farms, in transit, etc. The most common animal sources are beef, pork, sheep, and poultry.

The rendering process simultaneously dries the material and separates the fat from the bone and protein. A rendering process yields a fat commodity (yellow grease, choice white grease, bleachable fancy tallow, etc.) and a protein meal (meat and bone meal, poultry byproduct meal, etc.).

Rendering plants often also include other materials, such as slaughterhouse blood, feathers and hair, but do so using processes distinct from true rendering.

That’s what they feed the animals YOU eat.  So YOU are eating this filthy, disgusting, stuff yourself. 

Since the discovery of mad cow disease in the United States, the federal government has taken some action to restrict the parts of cattle that can be fed back to cattle. (Ed. Oh yeah!  They eliminate the brain and spinal cord, as though the Prion that causes Mad Cow Disease doesn’t go anywhere else in the cow’s body.  Obviously, the Prion can be transmitted EVERYWHERE in the cow’s body by the blood that flows through the brain and spinal cord, and then to the rest of the body!)


Most animals are still fed meat from their own species. Pig carcasses can be rendered and fed back to pigs, chicken carcasses can be rendered and fed back to chickens, and turkey carcasses can be rendered and fed back to turkeys. Even cattle can still be fed cow blood and some other cow parts.

Under current law, pigs, chickens, and turkeys that have been fed rendered cattle can be rendered and fed back to cattle—a loophole that may allow mad cow agents to infect healthy cattle.

Animal feed legally can contain rendered road kill, dead horses, and euthanized cats and dogs.

Rendered feathers, hair, skin, hooves, blood, and intestines can also be found in feed, often under catch-all categories like "animal protein products."

Manure and Other Animal Waste

Feed for any food animal can contain cattle manure, swine waste, and poultry litter. This waste may contain drugs such as antibiotics and hormones that have passed unchanged through the animals' bodies. 

The poultry litter that is fed to cattle contains rendered cattle parts in the form of digested poultry feed and spoiled poultry feed. This is another loophole that may allow mad cow agents to infect healthy cattle.

Animal waste used for feed is also allowed to contain dirt, rocks, sand, wood, and other such contaminants. 


Many animals need roughage to move food through their digestive systems. But instead of using plant-based roughage, animal factories often turn to pellets made from plastics to compensate for the lack of natural fiber in the factory feed.

Drugs and Chemicals

Animals raised in humane conditions with appropriate space and food rarely require medical treatment. But animals at animal factories often receive antibiotics to promote faster growth and to compensate for crowded, stressful, and unsanitary living conditions. An estimated 13.5 million pounds of antibiotics—the same classes of antibiotics used in human medicine—are routinely added to animal feed or water. This routine, non-therapeutic use of antibiotics speeds the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, which can infect humans as well as animals. Antibiotic resistance is a pressing public health problem that costs the U.S. economy billions of dollars each year.

Some of the antimicrobials used to control parasites and promote growth in poultry contain arsenic, a known human carcinogen. Arsenic can be found in meat or can contaminate human water supplies through runoff from factory farms.

Again, the land animals God allowed humanity to eat were almost exclusively herbivores – vegan vegetarians.  Now, with Factory Farming, no animal raised for food is a vegan vegetarian.  They all eat flesh food – frequently filthy, rotting flesh food.  They are fed animal waste.  They are fed blood, and they are filled with drugs and chemicals. 

Therefore, there are NO “Clean” animals raised on Factory Farms. 

ALL animals are now UNCLEAN. 

Yet, many hundreds of years after the flood, when God brought the Israelites out of Egypt, before He gave them the Ten Commandments (in Exodus, Chapter 20), He cleared the minds and bodies of the Israelites so they could understand the Ten Commandments.  He gave them a totally vegan diet - - - MANNA! (In Exodus, Chapter 16 – four Chapters earlier.)

And what was the Israelites’ response?  Total ingratitude!  Speaking of the Manna they said, “We loathe this light bread!” and they pleaded for the fleshpots of Egypt.

So God gave them exactly what they wanted - - all the quail they lusted after.  And thousands died!  Many died with the flesh still between their teeth.  And not one of those who lusted after flesh food entered into the Promised Land.  They ALL died in the wilderness!

This is a perfect example of “God’s wrath!”  Giving us what we want – what we desperately whine and complain for, and then letting us reap what we have sown.

God’s IDEAL diet is a totally vegan vegetarian diet. 

This is the diet God gave Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. 

He confirmed it when He gave it (manna – a vegan diet) to the Israelites when he brought them out of Egypt through the wilderness into the Promised Land.

And God tells us that a vegan vegetarian diet will be the only one available in heaven and the New Earth (because nothing will die).  Even the animals will be vegan vegetarians. 

“And the cow and the bear shall graze:  their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.”  Isaiah 11:7 But notice that God did not command mankind to eat flesh food.  He left it up to the individual.  If carnal man lusted after flesh food, he would significantly shorten his life span.  He would reap the consequences of his own decision.  He would reap what he had sown.

But a diligent student of the Bible can easily discern from the diet given by God a) in Eden, b) to the Israelites in the wilderness (which represented God delivering each of us from sin – Egypt – and taking us to the “Promised Land), and c) in heaven and the New Earth, that God’s IDEAL diet is a vegan vegetarian diet! 

In ALL three instances, God designates a vegan vegetarian diet!

And before God gave the Israelites the Ten Commandments, He cleaned up their diet so each of them would have a cleaner body and a cleaner, sharper brain – for understanding.

God gave the Ten Commandments in Exodus, Chapter 20.  But in Exodus, Chapter 16, God gave the Israelites manna – a totally vegan diet.  He changed their diet completely to improve their general health and to give them clearer understanding.

Our body is the temple of God.  We are not to defile it in any way.

God tells us:

“What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit (God’s breath of holiness) which is sin you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

“For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s”  1 Cor 6:19,20

“If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.” 1 Cor 3:17 

“Whether you eat or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” 1 Cor 10:31

God has given us the way to be well.

“If you follow My laws, My commandments and My decrees. . . I will keep you free from every disease.”  Deut 7:11-15

When we live, eat, and handle stress God’s way, we will be healthy and we’ll have no need for these chemical air fresheners which can have adverse consequences on our health.

According to the NRDC report, three Walgreens products — Walgreens Scented Bouquet Air Freshener, Walgreens Air Freshener Spray and Walgreens Solid Air Freshener — were among the top four highest in phthalate content (including Ozium Glycolized Air Sanitizer). The company will submit its house-branded products to an independent lab to confirm the NRDC's findings; one of Walgreens' manufacturers has already decided to make its product phthlate-free, according to Walgreens spokeswoman Carol Hively. The two air fresheners that the NRDC found virtually free of phthalates were Febreze Air Effects Air Refresher and Renuzit Subtle Effects. http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1664954,00.html

Yet even Febreze contains 80+ chemicals, including ?phthlates? 

According to Patrick Pontillo, Febreze Air Effects is showcased as a technological odor eliminator that will get you to breathe happily; as if it were happy pills in a spray - even space age magic that scientifically encapsulates odors and makes them disappear. 

Well, even though Febreze Air Effects was heralded as phthalate-free, an ingre- dient detected in it forms a metabolite known as Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate.  The metabolite was implicated as a major cause of Sick Bldg Syndrome. 

There are additional red flags attached to the Febreze product line, along with the fact that it has triggered brutal asthma attacks and other adverse reactions.   At this point, enter the 501(c) non-profit charity known as the Environmental Working Group, aka the EWG.  Its stated mission is that of using the power of public information, to protect public health and the environment.  The EWG team comprises scientists, engineers,  lawyers, data analysts, and a few board members who each carry a reputable name. 

One of the EWG projects was that of analyzing the contents of Febreze Air Effects Hawaiian Aloha.   According to the scientists, it was nothing more than a cauldron of chemicals; 87, to be exact.  In as much, Febreze has a glut of fragrance chemicals combined with noxious non-fragrance chemicals that easily drowns-out whatever existing odor was in the air before Febreze was applied to the airspace in question. 

Odor Eliminators don't emit odors as gaudy as those emitted from Febreze 

If Febreze were an odor eliminator, a person would smell nothing as soon as Febreze were sprayed into the air.  Febreze would also eliminate the odors of those aromatic chemicals that it releases into the air.  Being that a person can't help but notice the gaudy smell of Febreze, the smell, alone, is proof that the Febreze product line eliminates no odors.  In fact, subjects of a Consumers' Report test smelled, at times, the very things that Procter & Gamble claims to be eliminated by Febreze.  Some of the test subjects where sickened by what they smelled.

All the Test Subject Plants Died, in Both Tests 

There is also the matter of all the test plants dying, in supervised Quebecois scholastic project.  Febreze was applied in both series of tests.  In the second test, Febreze was heavily applied, and the test subject plants died in a matter of hours.  In the first test, it took a few days for all of the test subject plants to die.  This is a concurring red flag.  In fact, this is pivotal. http://www.chemicalsensitization.com/2012/05/febreze-update.html  


Rather than fill our homes and cars with dangerous chemicals to cover up the wretched smell of decaying, putrefying waste products hanging around in our body, God has graciously given us a way to remain well, a way to keep our body clean and healthy, by changing the way we live, think, act, eat, and handle stress. 

We don’t have to be a part of the almost 90% of Americans who live the wrong way.  Instead, we can agree that “our body is God’s temple” and treat it appropriately. 

A healthy body with a normally functioning immune system does not smell bad!
